HR Business Partner Community

A large number of HR organisations in Europe is undertaking great efforts to make personnel work more efficient and effective by means of reorganising HR. This often is to be accomplished by setting up an HR organisation with HR service centres, centres of expertise as well as HR business partners. While HR service centres are well established by now and centres of expertise are assigned a clear scope of functions, the role of the HR business partner in the realigned HR service delivery model, however, is not yet well developed in many companies: The customer groups, service portfolio as well as HR processes and interfaces often are not yet sufficiently defined within the HR business partner organisations. As a result, the HR business partner is only rarely able to optimally perform its value-adding role as an HR expert and specialist consultant. In the HR business partner community, eleven companies are involved in the discussion about the HR business partner, and good approaches for strengthening the new role are being developed. The following results are available to the HR business partner community so far:

  • Standard service specifications for HR business partners on activity basis
  • Criteria of excellence regarding the role of HR business partners Competency profile of HR business partner
  • Customary support ratios and costs of HR business partners

The HR business partner community holds workshops to develop solutions for establishing HR business partners in the participating companies. The community meets semi-annually; the next workshop will take place in the fall of 2010.
